Insurance Agencies

There are so many factors that go into choosing an insurance agency. You need to feel comfortable with the agent you are buying from, and you also need to feel comfortable with the people that work in the agent’s office as well. In many cases insurance can be a very personal thing; if you ever have to call the office about a personal issue dealing with your insurance you want to know that you are comfortable talking to anyone in the office if your agent is not there. It also helps to have an agent that is close by your home in case you need to drop off any paperwork, or in case the insurance company needs information from you quickly. Being close to your agent can make things much easier.

Not all insurance agencies are the same. Some agencies represent only one insurance carrier, while others represent a variety of carriers with no one real preference. The choice is your as to what kind of agency you want to work with, and with insurance it is not necessarily a bad thing to limit yourself to one company. Many insurance carriers offer discounts to customers that are reliable with their payments, and customers that do not make a great deal of claims against their insurance policy. Discuss these kinds of issues with each agency you are considering, and make sure that you understand all of the conditions surrounding the policies they offer.

Some agencies have a reputation for offering excellent customer service, while other agencies are known to just push paperwork and not get too involved on behalf of the customer. The pricing for an insurance policy usually comes from the carrier and not the agency, so if you are talking to an agency that offers a less than competitive level of customer service then it may be time to talk to a new agency.
